A man who had just lost his job returned to his former workplace in southern Germany Tuesday, killing two employees before detonating grenades in a school, killing a teacher and then himself, police said.
The gunman, 22, was found dead at the school where he had fled, police said. The head of the police intervention team said it was not yet clear whether the attacker had shot himself or blown himself up with a hand grenade.
Guenther Beckstein, interior minister of the state of Bavaria where the incident took place, told reporters the perpetrator had acted in a "calculated" way in killing his victims, two former co-workers and the principal of a technical school he had attended.
He stormed the offices of the supply company at about 8:00 am (0700 GMT) and opened fire with a high-caliber weapon in a room where decorations were being made, killing the 38-year-old head of the company and a 40-year-old employee.
The attacker then fled 12 kilometers (seven miles), taking a commuter train according to a television report, to the neighbouring town of Freising.
There he entered a technical school after firing wildly in the parking lot. He set off two grenades inside the school ї which 11 to 18-year-olds attend ї and continued shooting, killing a third victim, the school principal.
He also seriously wounded a male teacher who was shot through the cheek. A woman teacher was in shock and a male student was slightly wounded.
