Marat Safin lost his semi-final game in the Tennis Masters Cup in Lisbon to North American Andre Agassi in two straight sets, 3-6, 3-6. Safin fell in the first set, seemingly recovered but injured himself badly in the second, twisting an ankle. After receiving assistance, he bravely carried on and played as best he could, but Agassi’s mobility won the game. In the other semi-final, a well-balanced match was played between Pete Sampras (USA) and Gustavo Kuerten (Brazil). Sampras won the first set 7 – 6 but Kuerten won the second and third 6-3 and 6-4. Tomorrow’s final will be between Agassi and Kuerten.
