Germany won its third gold medal of the open water swimming world championships on Saturday with Angela Maurer triumphing in the women's 25-kilometer race.

Maurer swam through the Bay of Naples in 6 hours, 22 minutes, 46.9 seconds, beating Russia's Natalia Pankina by just under a second. Another Russian, Ksenia Popova, was third.

Germany has a chance to claim its fourth gold medal Sunday when two-time winner Thomas Lurz competes in the Men's 25-kilometer race, reports AP.
