The Israeli Defence Force has pulled back to a buffer zone of three kilometres inside Gaza's territory as a 72-hour humanitarian truce, brokered by Egypt, enters force on Tuesday at 08.00.
Israel claims that its objective of destroying Hamas' tunnels has been completed. The toll has been 1,800 Palestinians and 67 Israelis, since Israel's Operation Protective Edge began on July 8. As the Israelis withdrew, Hamas fired further barrages of rockets at central Israel.
