The trade volume between Russia and Thailand made up 345.7 million dollars in the first six months of the year, and 395.2 million dollars over the year 2001. RIA Novosti received this information at the Russian economic development and trade ministry in connection with the official visit to Russia of head of the Thailand government Thaksin Shinawatra.
The Russian exports to Thailand in the first six months of the year amounted to 71.55 percent on the level for the same period of 2001, or 246.2 million dollars. The main Russian exports items to Thailand are rolled metal and scrap metal whose deliveries accounted for 150.8 million dollars and 31.3 million dollars respectively.
The Russian trade department points out that changes have been made in the structure of the Russian exports to Thailand with a view to increasing the share of machines, equipment and finished products compared to the volume of raw materials.
The Russian imports from Thailand over the same period made up 99.5 million dollars, and 81.1 million dollars over the year 2001.
The biggest item of the Russian imports from Thailand is raw sugar which amounted to 59.4 million dollars in the first half of 2002, which is 62 per cent more than over the same period of the last year.
For the first time in the last five years, the products of electronic industry of Thailand were included in the first ten items of imported goods. The imports of computers rose by 100 times compared to the year 2000, made up 7.8 million dollars and took the second place after the raw sugar.
