President George Bush declared that he had instructed US energy secretary Spenser Abraham to represent the US government at the forthcoming meeting of members of the project to create the international thermonuclear reactor (ITER) to be held in St. Petersburg. This information was provided by the White House press service which circulated the Bush statement in which he reported about his decision to take part in the project in which Russia, China, Japan, Canada, and some EU countries, including Britain, take part.
The ITER project is being implemented within the framework of international efforts to create by the middle of the next century the source of pure, safe, renewable and commercially accessible energy of nuclear synthesis, stressed the head of the White House and added that for the USA the commercial use of such energy can substantially improve the energy safety, and diminish the discharges into the atmosphere and its pollution, which lead to the "green house effect."
