Russian deputy emergencies minister Valery Vostrotin has left Kabul and is heading for the Salang pass to personally conduct reconnaissance and decide on the activities needed to restore the motor traffic across the Salang pass, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry reported Thursday. This motor way was virtually the only one linking northern Afghanistan with the rest of the country. The restoration of the motor way will considerably facilitate the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to the central and southern provinces of Afghanistan. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is taking part in the restoration effort at the request of the Afghan side. Valery Vostrotin heads the centre of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in Kabul.
