The final protocol of the description of the line of the state border between the Russian Federation and Mongolia was signed in Ulan Bator on Monday. As chairman of the Russian side of the mixed Russian-Mongolian border commission Valery Shchetinin noted in an interview with RIA Novosti, the signing of this document marked the end of an important stage in cooperation between the two countries on the border questions. According to him, the work to determine the line of the border between Russia and Mongolia was done during 14 years. During this period all the 3,543 kilometres of the border were fully verified and formalised, and 1,925 frontier posts were installed, with 459 of them having being installed for the first time. Aerial photography of the border was carried out. Corrections have been made on 162 sheets of maps, and the sheets have been printed anew. Two-tripartite Russian-Mongolian-Chinese intergovernment agreements determining the eastern and western joints of the three states' borders were also signed.
