The activity of the Interior Ministers' Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States is quite efficient, said Russian Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov in Tbilisi on Wednesday. The minister noted that 24 sessions of the council had already been held.
"We adopted real plans of interaction using them for conducting joint operations and detaining great numbers of criminals," Gryzlov stressed.
He said that "actions are being co-ordinated, common information and search systems created, communication channels developed and joint bureau for co-ordinating the fight against organised crime established." According to Gryzlov, the session decided to submit the issue of fighting illegal migration for discussion at the CIS summit level.
Georgian Interior Minister Koba Narchemashvili also positively appraised the session. "The fact that we convene twice a year, sign concluding documents, work in line with these documents and develop our relations proves that the existence of the CIS Interior Ministers' Council is justified and we must continue co-operation," Narchemashvili said.
