United Nations Secretary General &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/main/2002/11/21/39746.html ' target=_blank>Kofi Annan on Thursday suggested that the next Secretary General would be from Asia. His term will end next year.
The previous UN Secretary General from Asia was U Thant. Thant was from Myanmar and served as the United Nations Secretary General for a decade from 1961.
Annan said, "The Secretary General is elected on a rotational basis. There is a general sense that next time it would be from Asia." He commented while holding a press conference at Indian capital New Delhi at the end of his three-day visit.

He views Sathirathai as the potent candidate for the position, as Thailand’s deputy Prime Minister has got the backing of the ASEAN alliance, reports All Headline News.
