Chile condemns Iranian President

Chile on Friday joined the international community in condemning Iran after the country's hardline president said that Israel should be "wiped off the map."

A communique by Chile's foreign ministry expressed "strong condemnation of these kind of comments that are a threat to the fundamental principles in the charter of the United Nations related to the maintenance of peace and territorial integrity of a state."

The comment by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was cited by U.S. officials as offering "a more full picture of the real nature of the Iranian regime."

More than a million demonstrators packed the streets of Tehran and other major Iranian cities on Friday voicing support for Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of the Jewish state, AP reports.
