Two ships carrying hundreds of &to=http://english.pravda.ru/society/2001/03/21/3083.html' target=_blank>illegal immigrants reached the tiny Sicilian island of Lampedusa on Wednesday and a third landed in Licata off the southern coast of Sicily, port authorities said.
Vittorio Fuso, with the Palermo port authority, estimated there were probably around 400 migrants. They were being questioned late Wednesday. He also did not know the migrants' nationalities, but noted that they all survived the crossing safely because of calm seas.
The first two ships reached Lampedusa around 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., while the third arrived in Licata about 8 p.m.
Fusi said the immigrants would be sent to a holding center.
