Spanish police seize 15 tons of hashish, 10 arrest

World

Spanish police said Tuesday they seized 15 metric tons (16 US tons) of hashish and arrested 10 people. The drugs were hidden in a warehouse in Arganda del Rey, about 22 kilometers (13 miles) east of Madrid. "This could be the biggest seizure of hashish to date in Madrid," the police statement said. Nine of the men arrested were Moroccans, police said. The other man was a Spaniard.

The drugs, which had come from Morocco, were hidden in 10 large wooden boxes, the statement added.

The biggest bust in Spain this year was in October in the southern port of Algeciras where police seized over 26 metric tons (28 US tons) of hashish. Spain is a major entry point into Europe for hashish and cocaine, reports the AP. I.L.
