Moderate earthquake rattled western Greek island

World

A magnitude-4.3 earthquake rattled the western Greek island of Cephallonia on Tuesday, causing no injuries or serious damage, authorities said. Athens' Geodynamic Institute said the undersea quake occurred at 10:10 a.m. (0810GMT), southwest of the Ionian Sea island. "This event is not unusual at all. Earthquakes are very common in Cephallonia, so this is not something that concerns us," said seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos, head of research at the Geodynamic Institute.

On Sunday, southern Greece was jolted by a magnitude-6.9 earthquake that caused three injuries. About 40 buildings have so far been listed for demolition after Sunday's quake, on the islands of Kithira and Crete, as well as southern parts of Greece's Peloponnese region, reports the AP. I.L.
