Soccer round-up. 46051.jpegReal Madrid retains a three-point lead with a game in hand in the Spanish Primera Liga while in the English Premiership, both Manchester clubs got three points while the London pack Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal keep up the pressure. No change at the top in Italy but in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich bounces back to the top.

England Premier League

Wins for the top three, Tottenham having a game in hand; Chelsea leapfrogs ahead of Newcastle to take fourth place and Arsenal pulls up to fifth. Manchester City thrashed Norwich City 5-1; Manchester United went to Villa to win 1-0 and Chelsea travelled back from Newcastle with 3 points in the bag (3-0). Tottenham saw off Bolton 3-0 and Arsenal thumped Wigan away 4-0.

Palermo drew away 0-0 at Parma.

Bayern Munich took the best possible advantage out of the draw between the nearest rivals in the Bundesliga, Moenchengladbach 1 Dortmund 1, by beating Werder Bremen 4-0 authoritatively reclaiming top spot. Schalke goes ahead of Bremen with a 3-1 defeat of Augsburg. Leverkusen cemented its place in the pack with a 2-0 home defeat of Hoffenheim and Stuttgart could do no better than a 2-2 home draw with Koln.

Third-placed Lille beat Ajaccio away in Corsica 3-2. And Lyon replaces Rennes in fourth place after beating Toulouse 3-2. Rennes is in fifth after a 2-0 defeat at Nice and Marseille pulls up into the top seven with a 2-1 win at Caen.

FC Porto appear to have overcome the mini-crisis which saw coach Vitor Pereira facing a shaky future. After the 3-2 win over Braga (FC Porto was winning 3-0 until the end of the game), FC Porto is leader ex aequo with Benfica but ahead on goal difference. Benfica beat arch rival Sporting CP in the Lisbon derby 1-0. Maritimo drew 2-2 in the Madeira derby with Nacional.
